The end of Labour dominance in Wales
Wales has entered a new political world as Labour declines from dominance towards only local significance, to be replaced by either Plaid Cymru or the Conservatives as the political powers of the future. Mrs Thatcher always dreamed of having the equivalent of a rugby team of MPs returned from Wales. However, she never got beyond 14. But what the handbag-wielding slayer of socialism never managed to achieve now seems within easy reach of Nicholas Bourne, the ... Read More >> |

The division between the Conservative Party in Wales and the party's MPs in London seems to be getting deeper by the day. It should have been no surprise that Welsh party leader Nick Bourne has established a policy committee which excludes all three Welsh MPs but finds space for two AMs who were not returned last month (Glyn Davies and Lisa Francis). | Summer Kitchen |
The Essence of Summer Food, and its production, affects all our lives, influencing our culture and the way we live, or is it our modern lifestyle that affects the food? Hopefully, we will never reach the pill instead of a meal level of development, although I used to like the Star Trek idea of a microwave type of machine that duplicated any meal you wanted at the press of a button, certainly preferable to a handful of pills, but would it actually taste as good, I am inclined to think not, only a... This story about Tony Blair (or Tony B Liar to squaddies) because of the Iraq problems he created for himself) seems almost too good to be true.
There's long been a tale going around Welsh Tories concerning our recently-departed prime minister's early interest in politics. We all know that Mr Blair's background and private education would both incline him to support the party which usually wins elections, in other words, the Conservatives. | Letter to the Editor |
I have just read the interview with Cardiff International Airport's Managing Director in the April/May edition CAMBRIA. Jon Home's vision for the future was quite impressive, having many positive views on the development of Cymru's flagship airport. Yet I recently received the airport's 'Summer Schedule 2007' in the post and was disappointed. The reason? Not one word of Welsh was used in the publication, not even a token "Croeso". The same goes for their website. In the airp... Read More >> |

TO THE FORMER EDITOR EDITOR Over the past ten years I have read many articles in CAMBRIA with great pleasure, and drafted emails in response, which were never sent. This time however, I am determined to respond to the notice of your retirement You will be sorely missed, and a hard act to follow. From its inception CAMBRIA has been outstanding. I have looked forward to each issue, and marvelled at the variety, depth and scholarship of the articles. The contributors have been impressive and I feel be... Read More >> |

BISHOPS: TOO MUCH POWER I am grateful to Sion Jobbins and the writers of two letters (CAMBRIA September-October 2006) for their comments on the deplorable way that the Editor of Y Llan has been treated. I am also grateful to CAMBRIA for publishing these criticisms of the Church in Wales. Now that Y Llan has ceased to be published there is no Church publication where such things can be said - not that such publications were of much use. Whenever I sent anything to the editors of Welsh - or English... Read More >> |
